The Secretariat to the APPG on Social Integration is provided by The Challenge.

The Challenge is a registered charity which works on a local level to bring together people from all ages, ethnicities and walks of life – fostering social integration, connecting communities and building trust. It designs and delivers programmes which create spaces and incentives for young people to come together and meaningfully engage with others from different backgrounds.

The Challenge worked with the government to design National Citizen Service and is now the largest provider of the programme.

The Challenge also develops and promotes policy ideas to forge a more integrated Britain through projects such as the Social Integration Commission. This independent inquiry, chaired by Royal Society of the Arts Chief Executive Matthew Taylor, sought to explore how people from different communities and backgrounds relate to one another in modern Britain.

The Commission found that despite our growing diversity, many of us spend relatively little time with people from different walks of life, and that this has a significant impact on levels of trust in our communities. The work of the Commission will help to inform the early work of the APPG.
