Visit to Manchester

The All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Social Integration visited a range of intergenerational projects in Manchester to gain insights and case studies for its inquiry into intergenerational connection.

The APPG’s Chair, Chuka Umunna MP, met first with members of staff from the Manchester School of Architecture to hear about how living spaces can be designed to bring generations together. He then met with Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, and members of the Greater Manchester Older People’s Network and Youth Combined Authority, to discuss how policy is promoting intergenerational connection across the region, and how both younger and older people are playing an active role in the policy-making process. The final visit of the day brought Chuka to Levenshulme Inspire Centre, where Manchester Cares were holding a music-making session to bring young professionals and older people together.
