Visit to South London

Led by Chair Chuka Umunna MP, the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Social Integration visited three different intergenerational initiatives in south London to gather evidence as part of its inquiry into intergenerational connection.

The first visit of the day took place at Rachel McMillan Nursery School in Deptford, where nursery children and older people from the Meet Me at the Albany group joined together for a storytelling session, as part of Meet Me’s range of arts-based intergenerational activities. Following this, Chuka visited the home of an older person in Lewisham who benefits from the Good Gym initiative, which provides opportunities for younger people to combine getting fit with doing good by running to help an older person with tasks around the home, or to chat with them to prevent loneliness. Lastly, the APPG visited Age Exchange to discuss how their intergenerational arts and drama projects are helping people of different ages to step into one another’s shoes.
