English language provision and social integration

The All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Social Integration launched Stage Two of its inquiry into immigration and integration with a public evidence session on Monday 27 February.

APPG members reconvened to hear from Saira Grant (Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants), James Cupper (National Association for Teaching English and other Community Languages to Adults), Alexander Braddell (Oxfordshire Skills Escalator Centre CIC Ltd), and Dr Anne Smith (Creative English Alliance).

They discussed English language provision across the UK and steps that central and local government could take to improve and facilitate it. The session also explored the importance of speaking English to successful social integration and delved into innovative approaches to language teaching and learning.
